TE 801- Professional Roles and Teaching Practice I 
Instructors: J. Grant, G. Richmon, T. Bird
This was the first master's course I took and it was during my student teaching.  I learned basic teaching techniques and general teaching philosophy. This was also a great forum to discuss challenges that we encountered in our internship placements and to work on our resume and teaching portfolio.

TE 802- Reflection and Inquiry in teaching Practice I

Interns discussed the applicability of research-based knowledge. We also learned how to incorporate inquiry into our lessons and how to use them to assess student learning.

TE 803-Professional Roles and Teaching Practice II

 TE 803 was a continuation of TE 801.  I continued to learn basic teaching techniques and general teaching philosophy. This was also a great forum to discuss challenges that we encountered in our internship placements.  We also continued to revise our teaching portfolios.

Fall 2009

ED 800- Concepts in Educational Inquiry 
Instructor: S. Weiland
This course addressed inquiry in education and problems of theory and practice in teaching and learning. We examined general educational philosophy and methodology.  We also examined the work of John Dewey, Howard Gardner, and discussed the philsophy and history of education.  Much of the class discussion focused on what the aim of education should be and how education should recognize students as individuals while still meeting society standards for education.

Spring 2010

TE 861A- Teaching Science For Understanding 
Instructor: S. Tuckey
The goal of this course was to try to understand what understanding really is.   We spent the majority of the course identifying signs of true student understanding.   In addition, we looked at current education reform and how it fits into the goals of education and what is best for learners.

Summer 2010

CEP 883-Psycholgy of Classroom Discipline 
Instructor: E. Oka, A. Fedewa
Examined theories about classroom discipline and strategies that can be used to resolve discipline issues in the classroom.  We also looked at our personal approach to classroom management and analyzed how we could improve in certain areas.

TE861 C-Action Research in K-12 Science/ Math Classrooms 
Instructor: A. Slaton
This class was designed to teach educators how to objectively research situations in classrooms and schools.  Action research gives educators the tools they need to make changes in education.  One of the projects in the course was to collect data on a student and use the data to create an intervention plan for that student.  We also tracked student progress after implementing the plan to see if there was any improvement in the situation.

Fall 2010

CEP 802- Developing Positive Attitudes Toward Learning 
Instructors: L. Benson, E. Oka
This course provided an interesting look at how to encourage students to view education in a positive way.  Motivation and rewards were a large part of class discussion.  We examined possible reasons why students might be unmotivated and resist learning.   We also discussed ways to intervene and encourage students to be excited to come to school and be self-motivated to learn.
